Peter Kiss worked for two years as a marine biologist before returning to the University of British Columbia for a degree in architecture. He worked for six years as an architect before becoming a full time artist in 1990.

Though having no formal training Kiss’ parents had instilled in him a deep appreciation of art and had provided Kiss with the opportunity to experience a variety of art forms. In May 1990 Kiss was given a solo show in which three quarters of his work sold on opening night.

In July 2001 Peter opened his own gallery on Granville Island and has since been very busy constantly creating new work. Kiss carves and paints his wood sculptures, often working with a crackle glaze. Kiss’ cleverly titled and whimsical subjects continue to delight collectors. His versatile work adds to any collection and transitions from home to office seamlessly.

Artist Statement: I approach my work with neither a personal nor a social agenda. Each piece is its own exploration of form, composition and color, with the assigning of a name coming after its completion. By not naming the pieces initially, the original compositional idea can evolve. This evolution not only applies to the physical form, but also to what or who the piece is. Clearly, some do come with their own agenda.
